Together with our team of Sales and Administration Staff, we can help with any enquiry you may have and are always here to help. In 2009 a new high technology R&D Centre was opened as part of the Company’s R&D strategy and one major development from this investment has been the introduction of Power Factor Correction and Flexible Voltage technology across a range of MMA. TIG and Plasma machines. Power Factor Correction (PFC) technology offers the user a host of benefits, not least in reducing power consumption. The requirement for less power also allows the user to weld at higher levels on a lower power supply - a real world advantage when you consider that the most prevalent power supply in the UK is just 13 Amps. Using GYS’s PFC equipped MMA machines will allow high duty cycle welding at 160amps (sufficient for 4mm rods) on a regular 13 Amp power supply, whereas normally one would expect to have to find a 16 Amp power supply. Normally a 160A machine without PFC, is capable of welding only 3.2mm electrodes at 125A using a 13 Amp fused plug. What is Power Factor Correction?

Metal work requires special tools to join two pieces together, which is where a spot welder comes into place. This type of resistance welding is an old yet effective method depending on the project. Understanding how it works helps you figure out if spot welding will work for your project. The goal of spot welding is to permanently attach two separate pieces of metal. The welding takes place at specific points, which are circular points. This type of welding is often used in the automotive industry to create the actual body of the vehicle by spot welding metal together. Other common uses include aerospace, metal furniture and electronics. Spot welding works through conductive heating, which is created by an electrical current. Classic spot welding positions two copper alloy electrodes, which hold the two pieces of metal together. Copper offers high thermal conductivity with low electrical resistance, making it an ideal way to focus the heat into the metal instead of in the electrodes themselves. The electrical current flows through the electrodes, creating concentrated heat to melt the metal. The melting causes the two pieces of metal to stick together in that spot. The electrical current only runs for a short time because once the pieces of metal fuse together, the current is no longer needed. However, the electrodes continue applying pressure until the melted metal solidifies into a secure joint. Welds created through this process are typically between 3 and 12.5 millimeters in diameter, with the size affecting the strength of the joint created. The welds are repeated at regular intervals to effectively join the two pieces. A similar process is seam welding, which uses the same resistance welding method. Instead of a shaped electrode that stays in one spot, seam welding uses wheel-shaped electrodes. The metal moves through those electrodes, which roll along the seam to create joints between the sheets of metal. You can use spot welding for a variety of metal materials, including sheets of metal and wire mesh. Steel is a top option because of a low thermal conductivity and high electrical resistance. Low-carbon steel is often the best choice, as higher carbon steels may become more brittle at the welds and be more prone to fractures or cracking. Stainless steel, titanium and nickel alloys also work well with spot welding. Spot welding can be more challenging on other metals, including aluminum, which requires much higher levels of electrical currents to create welds. Galvanized steel also tends to need higher currents to weld properly using this technique. Zinc alloys, copper and copper alloys may also be more challenging to spot weld. Material thickness is also a consideration. The ideal thickness is up to 3 millimeters, and the process works best when the two pieces being joined are the same thickness. If you're working with different thicknesses, the ideal ratio is no more than 3 to 1.

Car Service Reading – Scheduling Your Car’s ‘Scheduled Maintenance’Of course, there’s every possibility that your schedule is a bit too hectic and you’re busy with work, or just cannot afford to drop the car off for a service because you’re afraid it might just take too long. If you’re worried about Oil Change Sevice Tilehurst or any of these things, just remember that without periodic service, you’re putting the continued reliability of your car’s performance at risk. The old saying goes, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” and that is true to some extent, but if you do hear the odd whirr, thud or bump while driving, it’s best to drop your car in for a service. You never know, that tiny niggle may just grow to be a major and very expensive inconvenience in the very near future. If time is a constraint, contact your local service centre or dealer and ask how long it would take if it’s just a periodic service. If there’s a problem, book an appointment to go and show them the vehicle. Depending on what car you drive, they may even visit you to survey the car’s needs. If not, drop off your car and take a cab to work supplied by our sister company 1st Class Cars. if it’s just the matter of a day or two.

When appearance counts, TIG welding creates a high quality, clean weld that is far less likely to distort the metal by using a nonconsumable tungsten electrode. There is no need to worry about splatter because it only uses the necessary amount of filler metal needed in the welding puddle, making for the highest quality weld in every respect. However, TIG is fairly specialized and requires a good deal of training in order to master it-so make sure any TIG welder purchase is paired with a plan to take welding classes. Instead of the point and shoot simplicity of MIG welding, TIG requires the use of a foot pedal to regulate the welding process. A filler rod that is separate from the torch that must be fed in gradually. Many professional welders prefer TIG because it can weld a wide variety of metals and because of the versatility of argon gas used during TIG welding. There is no slag to block the view of the weld puddle. Argon gas can weld any metal at any thickness with TIG welding, and therefore there is no need to change the gas depending on the project. Eliminate Any Extra Welds from the Design: Look for ways to modify product designs to eliminate unnecessary welds. For example, one company that manufactured boxes originally had a design that called for welded lift handles on each side of the box. By simply changing the design of the box to cut out lifting slots, it eliminated the need for welding the handles - saving time and money. In another instance, rather than making a part with an open corner, the design was changed to accommodate a closed corner, which meant 1/3 less metal required to fill the corner. Look for Items That Can Be Welded Rather Than Cast: We've already discussed ways to eliminate welds to create efficiencies, but what about adding welds? In some cases, it may be more cost effective to weld metal pieces to a part rather than cast the entire component in a costly alloy or exotic metal. For example, a company that originally used a part cast in a high-nickel alloy found that 50 percent of the part could be composed of standard, structural steel which allowed a savings in material and thus a savings in total cost. Also, the company was further able to redesign the part so that it was more efficient. Looking for the best Welding Supplies? We recommend Welding Supplies Direct & associated company TWS Direct Ltd is an online distributor of a wide variety of welding supplies, welding equipment and welding machine. We supply plasma cutters, MIG, TIG, ARC welding machines and support consumables to the UK, Europe and North America. Don't use too much torch gas when welding aluminum on A/C. Don't use too much torch gas when welding aluminum on A/C. Aluminum takes a lot of amperage to weld. Even though the melting temperature of aluminum is less than half that for steel, it takes about twice as much amperage to weld. Why? Because aluminum conducts heat away from the weld puddle faster than you can put it in. this brings me to an important point. Do not use more argon than necessary on your torch gas. If you do, it will be like blowing cool air on something you are trying to heat up with a torch. All that argon blowing on the part makes for a loud erratic arc because the arc force is so great. Have you ever lit up on a thick aluminum casting and listened to how loud the arc is? I bet your torch gas was up around 20 like the books recommend. That's too much for aluminum (unless you are using an argon helium mix). Top welding tips: how to become a better welder and how to choose the best welding equipment. How do I choose what size Tig Welding Rod should I use for the job? For sheet metal up to 1/8" thick, don't use a welding rod that is bigger than the thickness of metal you are welding.at least not much bigger. A good example.is using a 3/32 rod for welding .040 metal. That will just give you a fit. The amperage is low and the weld puddle needs to be small in order to prevent blowing a hole.and then when you dip the rod into the puddle, the rod is a big heat sink and sucks the heat right out of the puddle making it hard to maintain a consistent size bead. But Beginners should probably not be practicing on really thin metal. If you are a beginner you should be practicing on around 1/8 " thick metal, and the bigger the rod, the easier it is to feed. For 1/8 " metal, Use larger diameter rods (3/32" to 1/8") So here is the rule..thin metal, use a thin rod Thick metal, use a thicker rod. This might seem like a no brainer, but I have answered a lot of questions like this about the rod melting before it gets to the puddle. If torch angle and arc length are right, its usually the rod size.
